L-Tryptophan
YOUR HAPPY-SLEEPY-FRIEND
FOUND IN:
Often associated with turkey on Thanksgiving day and the reason Uncle Joe crashes in the lounger watching football. L-Tryptophan is in turkey, but you don’t need to eat a ton of bird to reap the benefits of it.
L-Tryptophan is one of the many amino acids your body needs to make protein, but it also serves other fabulous functions. L-Tryptophan can be converted into a molecule called 5-HTP (5-hydroxytryptophan) which produces serotonin and melatonin. Serotonin affects the brain, intestines, and several other organs, influencing mood, cognition, and sleep.
Once your body produces serotonin from L-Tryptophan, it can be converted into melatonin, influencing a healthy circadian rhythm and sleep-wake cycle, improving sleep quality and quantity– which is exactly why it’s included in Dream Catcher. Studies have also shown L-Tryptophan to increase antioxidant levels, boost mood, and decrease levels of anxiety and depression.
